If you are feeling like you don’t recognize the United States anymore as a land of freedom and democracy and opportunity for all and you’re feeling like it’s all slipping through our fingers and you don’t know what to do, here’s something to do…
Please video yourself completing this statement:
“My America is__________________________,” expressing, in one sentence, what our country means to you, your vision of what it should be.
Then, upload your video in our Dropbox. We will retrieve it and start attaching all the little videos into one beautiful stream of positivity that we will post on our website and in our e-blasts and on our social media. Maybe it won’t be a stream. Maybe we will create a rolling river of justice and love and community.
Why do this? To feel, again, the goodness that is at the heart of the American experiment. To state out loud the values we must live up to as a nation. To remember that nightmares can become dreams again. To remind others of these things. To remember that you are not alone, as people around the country record themselves doing this. To remind those in power that millions want the dream of America and its espoused values to live and flourish. To tell our neighbors who have come from other countries, that they are an integral part of this nation. To proclaim there is no place for hate here. To send out the energy of love, which is always more powerful than the energy of hate.
We invite you to lift your voice and proclaim: This is my America.
