Charter Oak Cultural Center is proud to welcome Professor Christopher Vials for ‘The Man Behind the Curtain: Steve Bannon, Fascism in America, and Where We Go From Here.”
The white nationalist Steve Bannon is an unprecedented figure in mainstream presidential politics, but he didn’t come out of nowhere. Professor Vials will take a look at Bannon within the long history of fascist movements in the United States, while also examining the current status of antifascist currents in this country.
After his talk, Professor Vials will lead the audience in an open discussion.
Christopher Vials is an associate professor and the Director of American Studies at UConn. His specialties are 20th-Century American literature, American studies, ethnic studies, the novel, popular culture, working class literature, political economy, U.S. empire, and social class and racial formation. His book, “Haunted by Hitler: Liberals, the Left, and the Fight Against Fascism in the United States” was published by University of Massachusetts press.
