READ IT & SLEEP: “Maddi’s Fridge” with Guest Storyteller Andre Keitt
February 19 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pmFREE
Families with preschoolers and elementary students are invited to join guest storyteller Andre Keitt for Charter Oak Cultural Center’s monthly virtual pajama party! This month we feature Maddi’s Fridge by Lois Brandt and a super-fun craft activity. Put on your PJs, grab a snack, a drink, and get ready for some family fun! FREE event.
ABOUT MADDI’S FRIDGE: Best friends Sofia and Maddi live in the same neighborhood, go to the same school, and play in the same park, but while Sofia’s fridge at home is full of nutritious food, the fridge at Maddi’s house is empty. Sofia learns that Maddi’s family does not have enough money to fill their fridge and promises Maddi she will keep this discovery a secret. But because Sofia wants to help her friend, she is faced with a difficult decision: to keep her promise or tell her parents about Maddi’s empty fridge. This story addresses issues of poverty with honesty and sensitivity while instilling important lessons about friendship, empathy, trust and helping others.
CRAFT ACTIVITY! The children will create a community refrigerator by drawing the fridge and then filling it with pictures of food that they would like, using cut outs from old magazines. If they do not have magazines, scissors or glue, they can draw the whole art project with their markers.
So the supply list is:
