Learn the basics of what makes a good feature story for a newspaper. Learn how to structure your stories to convey the most information with a human interest angle. Requirements: You will need tools to write during the class. A laptop with a writing program would be ideal, but handwriting on a pad is acceptable. There will be handouts and writing assignments. Instructed by Donna Larcen, former Arts Editor of The Hartford Courant and former media manager of Charter Oak Cultural Center.
Charter Oak Cultural Center offers classes at no cost, covering topics helpful to the BOTS team in their work on the newspaper, as well as leadership and communication skills.
While initially intended for BOTS members, the classes are free and open to all. Any student who graduates from the BOTS Center for Creative Learning is eligible to take a class at Goodwin College. If they do well, they then qualify to continue with their studies at Goodwin on a full scholarship.
